Good News! NZUWI Teacher Has Received the UW Divisional Teaching Excellence Award!

Recently, the University of Waikato announced the winners of Divisional Teaching Excellence Award (DTEA) 2024. Anthony Ryan of the University of Waikato Joint Institute at Hangzhou City University (NZUWI) was selected among many outstanding nominees to win the award! Anthony Ryan teaches English for Professions and has earned the respect and admiration of his students for his excellence in teaching. He not only teaches in class to help sophomores learn English for academic purposes, but also provides personalized tutoring outside of class to help students transition smoothly into their upper-level studies.
Anthony is an adventurous and innovative teacher. He is constantly exploring new tools and modes of teaching to enrich students’ experience. He enjoys sharing his insights and innovations with his colleagues, helping to create a collaborative and innovative educational environment.
Anthony's passion for teaching, his dedication to students, and his innovative spirit in the field of education have positively impacted both students and faculty members at NZUWI. We are immensely proud to have such an outstanding teacher!
Anthony’s remarks:
It is really a surprise and an honour to be recognised for this award. It is a privilege to know that my students appreciate my teaching and that I can have some impact on their learning journey.
Although it was me who was acknowledged in this instance, I want to highlight that it could have been any of the wonderful teachers we have here at NZUWI, from whom I have learned so much about teaching.
Looking forward to supporting my students and helping them to grow in the future here at NZUWI!

Background:
The University of Waikato Divisional Teaching Excellence Awards (DTEA) are designed to recognize outstanding contributions to teaching and student learning. The selection process is to prioritise the winners of the local Teaching Excellence Award, after which these winners’ accomplishments are evaluated through a process with the final candidates being identified for the University of Waikato University-level awards.
Nominees for the Teaching Excellence Award are required to submit paperwork demonstrating teaching excellence in terms of teaching process, teaching outcomes, assessment and feedback, leadership, and influence.
