Dr. Sultan Sikandar Mirza started his professional career in 2017 after completing his PhD in Financial Management in 2016 from DongBei University of Finance and Economics, Dalian, China. He has worked in Zhejiang Gongshang University, Hangzhou as an Assistant Professor for three years. He joined University of Waikato in February 2020. He is very active in academics and sports (Cricket, Badminton). His research orientations are corporate finance, corporate governance, green finance, corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability.  He had published several research articles in top tier journals including, Business Strategy and the Environment, Applied Economics, Finance Research Letters, and many more. He is also offering his services as a guest editor in one the prestigious journals, Sustainability, which is about “Corporate Digital Transformation and Sustainable Business Strategies in Emerging Markets”. He has also been awarded Teaching Excellence Award 2021-22 at NZUWI by the University of Waikato.

His teaching methodology is an integration of academics and applied research. He believes “Teaching students based on their strengths and weaknesses, encouraging their enthusiasm in learning, and boosting their confidence in studying, is not only part of the Chinese educational philosophy, but enhances students' overall growth." He firmly believes that respecting, understanding, and articulating diverse views on a range of topics are the essence of education. He believes in transfer of knowledge based on practical examples, application of basic concepts and a discussion-based class environment. As he is very approachable by students, his students are becoming enthusiastic about the exploration of various financial concepts in research. Chinese economy being his research market Ultimately, they are showing their excellence in the field of applied research as one of his students has published his research article in an international peer reviewed journal, while others are in process.
