First Lesson for The Class
2021-11-09

Visiting the production process of Alloy Chopsticks

Understanding the whole process of product from idea to implementation

Listening to the previous work experience of designers

……

Future Design Leadership Class, one of the two "characteristic classes" of The University of Waikato Joint Institute at Zhejiang University City College (NZUWI) starts on 10th October.

The first lesson of the class is not in the theory class, but in the in-depth "social classroom" that everyone can take part in.Teachers and students of the Future Design Leadership Class went to SUNCHA to visit and have conversations on the knowledge and experience. Executive vice dean Min He, Deputy Director (Temporary Post) of Local Cooperation Department of the University Wu Lu, Head teacher Fan Zhang attended the opening ceremony. Founder of SUNCHA Chenglie Zheng interacts cordially with the students.

The teachers and students visited the SUNCHA to learn more about the injection molding workshop, automated assembly line, and automatic packaging line. They also visited the Product Centers and Processing Centers. The two representative designers shared practical design experience from the perspective of independent development and demand development.

Communication

During the interactive communication section, Min He affirmed the significance of going deep into the enterprise to carry out the "first lesson". She pointed out that the development of this activity is conducive for students to combine the theories learned in school with actual work and experience the sense of achievement that turns an invention idea into a product. It is expected that such cooperation can further help students make progress in future professional learning and career planning.

Chenglie Zheng expressed three expectations for the students: Firstly, to become a self-reliant person and be able to do what he or she likes all the time. Secondly, to improve professional skills while improving cooperation and communication skills. Thirdly, to read thousands of books and travel thousands of miles, learn a solid theoretical foundation and enrich personal practical experience.

Listen to what they say:

Fan Zhang:

From the visit to SUNCHA today, we not only learned about the manufacturing process of alloy chopsticks and experienced many creative chopsticks products, but also listened to the precious internal sharing of two designers, which can make the students understand that excellent design never stops at the drawing stage. Only when the scheme enters the proofing section, the real design just begins.

In the last part, the three suggestions of "Self-reliance, Ability, Practice what you preach " given by Mr. Zheng are also pearl words. I hope the students can understand and practice these principles later.

The first lesson of today's "Future Design Leadership Class" is of great significance. I hope we can have further cooperation with SUNCHA in the future, so that students' creativity can take root and produce intangible value with the support of enterprises.

Ziyi Jia:

Design is more than theoretical expertise. From the initial idea to the final product, it needs to be modified and tested again and again. The professional knowledge we learn in school is a stepping stone. Graduation on the diploma does not mean the end of learning. Design needs to keep pace with the times, need to learn all the time, and be open-minded.

Jianhe Fang and Xinrui Cheng:

This time, my visit to SUNCHA gave me a completely different sense of experience. I took an internship in an advertising agency last summer, I have thought that the design is to cater to Party A's pursuit of beauty and high-level sense. However, during this visit, I found that design is used to do things. A successful product must be practical and beautiful in the end, and the actual function and experience of it cannot be ignored because of the excessive pursuit of beauty. At the same time, I found that design may be hidden in everyday objects that we may neglect. Only by using design to solve real problems in daily life can we make good products that are deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.

Yixuan Ding:

It's the first time to get to know a company in depth and I feel refreshed. The SUNCHA started from chopsticks and continued to expand its business. I think it is not only because of their production efficiency, but also for their corporate culture. Listening to Mr. Zheng today, he had said that he wanted to be a self-supporting designer, and said that the superior served the subordinate, so as to make the whole company full of happiness. Seeing and knowing, such an atmosphere is bound to make the collective go higher. What surprises me is that most of the products made by SUNCHA are bamboo and wood products. I like this kind of product that enhances the sense of design through ideas and creativity. Instead of adding electronic elements to the products, they are extremely fine. In general, this activity has broadened our horizons and I believe we can enter the enterprise practice more calmly in the future.

Yufei Zhang:

The activity in the SUNCHA allowed me to see the machine operation of the compression molding process with my own eyes, experience the air shower cleaning before entering the production workshop, and the automatic transport vehicle technology which can save more labor costs. The designer shared two product design processes, one is traditional product design, and the other is service-oriented product design. Because I have been exposed to the complete traditional product design process during my internship, I can make comparisons and learn from each other to make the design process more efficient.
